Blood and Sand is great and easy to learn cocktail.
It was created in 1922 after Rudolph Valentino’s bullfighter movie Blood and Sand which is based on the 1909 Spanish novel Sangre y Arena, explaining the blood and sand connection.
Who was inspired by the film to make the cocktail is unknown, but the recipe appears in Harry Craddock’s 1930 The Savoy Cocktail Book.
