Dorothy Gish

Dorothy Gish cocktail is one of those cocktails named after celebrities. She was a director and writer on stage and screen.

Dorothy and her older sister Lillian Gish were major movie stars of the Silent Era.

Dorothy also had great success on the stage and was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame.

The Dorothy Gish was possibly created by the famous American bartender Eddy Woelke in 1928, who resided in Cuba during Prohibition. Woelke is also credited with creating a number of classic cocktails including the El Presidente and the Mary Pickford.

The Dorothy Gish cocktail was first published in Jimmy’s 1932 The Green Cocktail Book and then in Albert Stevens Crockett’s 1935 Old-Waldorf-Astoria Bar Book.
