Hot Toddy
Hot Toddy cocktail is thought to be named after the Indian drink “toddy”, made from fermented palm tree sap, which the British discovered during colonial trade days and brought it to the motherland.
The Hot Toddy is a truly medicinal drink. What you obtain is two punch of antiseptic and anesthetic from the main ingredient that’s whisky, vitamin C from the lemon juice and energizes you with natural planet nectar which is honey.
The Toddy cocktail dates back as one of the first cocktails ever to be recorded in print, and the first known reference of the word “toddy” meaning a drink made with spirits, hot water, sugar, and spices was in 1750 Boston Weekly Post Boy.
Later, was published in Samuel Stearns’s 1801 American Herbal. Charles Dickens also makes reference to a Whiskey Toddy in his 1836 Pickwick Papers.
According to cocktail historian David Wondrich’s 2015 “Imbibe!”, the three editions of Jerry Thomas’s books gives references to Toddy cocktails. There, professor Thomas says it can be served hot or even cold.
