Larchmont

Created by David A. Embury and published in his 1948 Fine Art of Mixing Drinks. He describes the drink “as a grand finale to cocktails based on the Rum Sour, I give you one of my favourite which I have named after my favourite community”.

Apart from what many people think, Embury was not a bartender or a journalist. He was a lawyer and wrote about cocktails simply because he wanted to, an authentic aficionado.

In fact, The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks is one of the most well-known and important cocktail books on a bartender’s shelf, which became a bible for 1950s middle-class entertaining with his knowledge of cocktail origins and his almost scientific approach to drinks.

If you wonder about the name, Larchmont is a village in Westchester County, New York where he lived for many years.
