Manhattan

The story says that Dr Iain Marshall invented the drink in 1874.

Apparently, he was attending a banquet hosted by Lady Randolph Churchill, Winston Churchill’s mother, at the Manhattan Club in New York City. The banquet was being held to honour presidential candidate Samuel J. Tilden.

The drink was a great success and spread to the word. However, some folks believe should be made with rye whiskey in place of bourbon.
