Vago Mezcal is traditionally produced by mezcalero Aquilino García López and family. Aquilino is also the father-in-law of Mezcal Vago’s co-founder, Judah Kuper.
Vago is made 100% with natural agricultural methods growing Maguey Espadín, and Maguey Mexicano. Also, wild harvests Maguey Cuixe (Tobasiche) and Tepeztate in the mountains of Southern Oaxaca.
Once harvested, the agave is roasted underground for 3 – 5 days while the starches are broken down into simple fermentable sugars. Then, the mezcaleros ferment the sugar-rich agave in wooden tanks, and double-distilled.
