Domaine Dupont Calvados
Calvados Original
Country: Calvados, France
Raw material: Apple
Alcohol: 40%
The Domaine Dupont family estate, founded by Jules Dupont, produces ciders and calvados since 1887 in the Pays d’Auge region, Normandy, France.
Circa 300 different apples are grown and selected for the production of calvados. The fruits are harvested, fermented to make cider, then the cider is distilled into an eau-de-vie.
The Domaine Dupont Calvados is produced under the “Appellation d’Origine Controlée Pays d’Auge”. Made using double distillation in a Charente style alembic, and ageing in oak barrels for periods in between 2 to 50 years.
In this case, Calvados Original is a “white calvados” made from 80% bittersweet apples and 20% acid apples and aged for 2 years in old oak casks.
