Blue Blazer
Blue Blazer seems to be the most famous Jerry Thomas cocktail at least in picture – it is cover in his book Bartender’s Guide where he is shown doing the blaze technique.
Jerry developed his signature drink, the Blue Blazer, at the El Dorado gambling saloon in San Francisco and was first published in 1862 Bartender’s Guide.
The story says that a man stormed into the bar and roars “Bar-keep! Fix me up some hell-fire that will shake me right down to the gizzard!”
Jeremiah “Jerry” P. Thomas was born on October 30, 1830, in Sackets Harbor, New York.
An American pioneering bartender who owned and operated saloons in New York City popularizing cocktails across the United States as well, he is considered “the father of American mixology”.
In addition to writing the seminal work on cocktails, Bartender’s Guide, Thomas displayed creativity and showmanship while preparing drinks and established the image of the bartender as a creative professional. Likewise, he was often nicknamed “Professor” Jerry Thomas.
