Byrrh was created in 1866 by Simon Violet when opened a shop with his brother Pallade in Thuir, in the Pyrénées-Orientales, southern France.

 

Simon created his unique recipe from a blend of Roussillon and Malaga wines, flavoured with plant extracts and enhanced with cinchona bark (quinine), cacao, coffee, cinnamon, and oranges peel.

 

According to the official source, the name BYRRH is a completely random invention.
