Corpse Reviver No.1

The Corpse Reviver cocktail is more a class of drink than a simple recipe.

The Corpse Reviver family were cocktails drunk as an alcoholic hangover “cures”. Some Corpse Reviver cocktail recipes have been lost in time.

The first known written Corpse Reviver recipe appears in E. Ricket and C. Thomas 1871 The Gentleman’s Table Guide, which calls for equal parts of brandy and maraschino, and two dashes of Boker’s bitters.

Frank Meier was thought to create Corpse Reviver which is popular today in the 1920’s while was working at The Ritz in Paris. Variations from the American Bar at the Savoy Hotel remain, especially those written by Harry Craddock that originally dates back to 1930 and are still being made.

In Craddock’s books, he says “To be taken before 11 AM, or whenever steam or energy is needed”.
