Croft Port

Founded in 1588 by Henry Thomson, Croft the oldest firm still active today and one of the most distinguished of all Port houses.

Today, Graham’s is owned and managed by the fourth generation of the Symington family.

Croft’s owns the famous Quinta da Roêda, which holds some of the oldest vineyards in the Douro Valley.

Vintage Ports

Vintage Port represents the very best produce of a single outstanding year. It remains in the vat for only about two years and then ages in bottle. Vintage Ports will continue to age and improve in bottle for decades.

Quinta Roêda Vintage 1995

Country: Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal

Raw material: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, and Tinta Roriz

Alcohol: 20%

 

Vintage Port is a specific style of Ruby Port which is made only in exceptional years and from the ripest grapes.

 

According to the official source, the winter of 1994/5 was characterized by fairly heavy rainfall, but the temperatures were higher than normal and no cold weather was experienced.

 

Tasting Notes

Colour: Deep brown

Aroma: A rich bouquet of black fruits and quite exotic

Taste: Ripe flavours, prunes, chocolatey, and with good tannic structure.

Full-Bodied & Fruity Ports

Full-bodied and fruity Ports are aged for a relatively short time, between two to three years, in large oak vats. General higher quality wines are aged for slightly longer between four and six years.

Late Bottled Vintage 2014

Country: Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal

Raw material: Tinta Barroca, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, and Tinto Cao

Alcohol: 20%

 

Croft Late-Bottled Vintage was developed to satisfy the demand for high-quality Port ready to drink alternative to Vintage Port.

 

The wines used to blend Croft LBV were drawn from grapes grown on Croft’s own vineyard Quinta da Roêda, and other high-quality properties in the ‘Cima Corgo’ and ‘Douro Superior’ areas.

 

LBV 2014 was bottled after four to six years and is ready to drink since. As a blend of different vintages, the date featured on the label is the date of bottling, not the harvest date.

 

Tasting Notes

Colour: Deep purple-black

Aroma: Blackcurrant, herbal and balsamic notes, hints of rock rose, and liquorice.

Taste: Well-rounded and richly textured, with dark berries, and velvety tannins.

Rich & Mellow Ports

Rich and mellow tawny Ports are aged for longer periods in small oak casks. The relatively small volume of wine compared to the surface area of the vessel increases the contact with the wood.

Reserve Tawny

Country: Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal

Raw material: Tinta Amarela, Tinta Cão, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, and Tinta Barroca

Alcohol: 20%

 

The Croft Reserve Tawny is drawn from wines selected individual, these are aged for up to seven years in oak casks to reach their smoothness and mellow character in Croft’s cellars and then blended for a few months before bottling for balance and completeness.

Colour: Light brick red

Aroma: Rich red fruit, notes of caramel, raisins and cloves

Taste: Round flavours, strawberry jam, redcurrant, and nutty

White Port

White Ports are made from traditional white grapes from Douro region and are usually aged for two or three years in large oak vats.

Croft White Port

Country: Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal

Raw material: Arinto, Boal, Esgana Cão, Folgasão, Gouveio, Viosinho, and Rabigato

Alcohol: 20%

 

Croft White Port is a blend of wines produced from white grapes grown mainly on the upper slopes of the Douro Valley.

 

The individual wines are aged in oak vats for about three years, where they acquire mellowness and character.

 

Croft White Port ages entirely in cask or vat and are ready to drink when they are bottled. 

 

Tasting Notes

Colour: Pale straw

Aroma: Rich fragrant of mellow fruit, hints of honey and oak.

Taste: Full body, velvety palate and long flavours

 

 

Rose Ports

Rosé is the latest category of Port wine. It is made with the traditional method, but with limited exposure to the grape skins, thus creating the rose colour. Aged for a relatively short time, between two to three years.

Pink Rosé

Country: Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal

Raw material: Grapes variety

Alcohol: 19.5%

 

Croft Rosé is made by a new technique using the classic grapes variety grown in Douro Valley.

 

This technique is a light maceration that extracts fresh fruity flavours and subtle pink colour.

 

Croft Pink Rosé Port ages entirely in cask or vat and are ready to drink when they are bottled.
