Dark and Stormy
Dark and Stormy cocktail remembers the Cuba Libre cocktail.
Is hard to find precise dates for this cocktail, but the facts point to the 18th century while merchant sailors were trading spices between the ports of the Orient and the Caribbean. These spices served to flavour their rums but also used to make sodas and medicinal tonics.
Ginger is been used since ever as a medicine and for flavouring food in Ancient China and India. During the Victorian Era, the British used to brew an alcoholic beverage termed “ginger beer”.
Dark ‘n’ Stormy is a signature drink of Gosling’s Black Seal rum. Indeed, the name is trademarked, not the ingredients.
This means you can mix as many brands of dark rum as you like with ginger beer and lime, but if you insist on still calling it a Dark ‘n’ Stormy, then you could be in breach of trademark.
