Doctor Funk
Doctor Funk cocktail was created by Donn Beach in the 1950s at his The Beachcomber restaurant in Palm Springs, California which opened doors in 1953.
The drink was named after Doctor Bernard Funk who was Robert Louis Stevenson’s physician and friend in Apia, Samoa. Robert Stevenson was a Scottish novelist, poet, and travel writer.
The well-known German doctor is said to have concocted and prescribed an early version of this drink with absinthe.
The recipe spread throughout the South Atlantic and Pacific often getting renamed. However, when you ordered a Dr. Funk variation you would taste absinthe very present and intense.
