Hemingway Daiquiri
Hemingway Daiquiri is certainly one of the most favourite bartender’s cocktails.
The drink was created by Antonio Melian, the Head Bartender of El Floridita Bar in Havana, Cuba for the writer Ernest Hemingway – one of the most recognizable people of the 20th century winning the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954.
Once, Hemingway tried Floridita’s Daiquiri and he is said “That’s good but I prefer it without sugar and with double rum”.
Years later, was when Antonio Meilan added maraschino and grapefruit juice into the drink as we know it today.
He was affectionately known as “Papa” in Cuba and a drinks aficionado – Daiquiri, Mojitos and Martini were some of his favourites cocktails.
