Margarita
Margarita is one of the most popular cocktails in the world. The based formula is 2 parts tequila, 1 part triple sec liqueur, 1 part lime juice, and the salt on the rim is the law.
Margarita is that kind of cocktails that you can play with. The drink can be made shaken or blended, frozen or neat, straight up or on the rocks, classic or flavoured.
A similar drink can be first traced in William J. Tarling’s 1937 Café Royal Cocktail Book, where appears a recipe named Picador calling for ½ Tequila, ¼ Cointreau, and ¼ fresh lime or lemon juice.
Perhaps, because of being tequila-base, the drink has changed the name to Margarita which is the Spanish word for daisy.
The cocktail is usually linked to the “daisy cocktail category”. Although the daisy category is similar to the sour category where this cocktail suits more, the Margarita lacks some ingredients to be allocated on the daisy category. However, could very well have adopted the name from a similar category based on the main spirit origin.
