Millionaire
Millionaire cocktail is a classic first published by Harry MacElhone’s 1923 ABC of Mixing Cocktails, where is noted to be a recipe from Ritz Hotel in London. The cocktail can also be found in Harry MacElhone’s 1927 Barflies and Cocktails.
Later, Harry Craddock published two versions in his 1930 The Savoy Cocktail Book, Millionaire No.1 and No.2.
Numbers like that were once a time-honoured way to catalogue drinks variations and entirely different drinks, which happened to have the same name.
Neither these Millionaire No.1 or No.2 have something related to the recipe presented by the Ritz Hotel.
However, Millionaire No.1 from Harry Craddock was more popular than No.2. Millionaire No.1 was also published in William J. Tarling’s 1937 Café Royal Book and later in David Embury’s 1948 The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks.
