Monkey Gland
Monkey Gland is an early Prohibition cocktail from late 1920 by Harry MacElhone at his Harry’s New York Bar in Paris, France.
The Monkey Gland takes its name from the work of Dr Serge Voronoff, a French-Russian surgeon who believed animal glandular transplants would produce more sustained effects than mere injections onto humans.
The Monkey Gland cocktail was first published in Harry MacElhone’s 1923 Harry’s ABC of Mixing Cocktails and you can also find it in Harry Craddock’s 1930 The Savoy Cocktail Book.
