Pina Colada
When we hear Pina Colada cocktail, automatically comes a thought of a fancy Hurricane glass garnished with pineapple and umbrella served by the beach or pool.
Piña is the Spanish word for “pineapple” and Colada is a sweet cocktail made with rum and coconut cream or milk.
Pina Colada cocktail is quite disputed between two places.
First, is the Caribe Hilton Hotel, in the Puerto Rican capital of San Juan. They claim the Piña Colada was first served in its Beachcombers Bar in 1954 by bartender Ramon “Monchito” Marrer when asked by hotel management to create a signature drink that captured the flavours of the island.
Second, the claim goes to Ramon Portas Mingot in 1963 at the restaurant Barrachina in the city of Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. The bar holds a stone marker on the outside wall referring to location, year and creator.
