George Sandeman, the founder of Sandeman, established one of the world’s leading Port and Sherry wine businesses in 1790 after asked for a £300 loan from his father to set up as a wine merchant in London.

Vintage Ports

Vintage Port represents the very best produce of a single outstanding year. It remains in the vat for only about two years and then ages in bottle. Vintage Ports will continue to age and improve in bottle for decades.

Vau Vintage 2011

Country: Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal

Raw material: Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, and Touriga Nacional

Alcohol: 21%

 

Sandeman Vau Vintage is a Vintage Port of exceptional quality and contemporary in style.

 

Matured in ideal conditions of temperature and humidity, their gradual evolution was constantly watched and tasted by the winemaker who when satisfied makes the final blend. This magnificent Sandeman Porto Vau Vintage 2011 was bottled, untreated, in 2013.

 

Tasting Notes

Colour: Purple-red

Aroma: Very intense and complex aroma, with floral notes such as violet, red berries, and spices

Taste: Good structure, well-balanced acidity and nicely-evolved tannins, with floral aromas and red fruits very present

Full-Bodied & Fruity Ports

Full-bodied and fruity Ports are aged for a relatively short time, between two to three years, in large oak vats. General higher quality wines are aged for slightly longer between four and six years.

 

Late Bottled Vintage 2015

Country: Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal

Raw material: Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, and Tinta Barroca

Alcohol: 20%

 

Sandeman’s 2015 Late Bottled Vintage Port is a result of a blend from a carefully selected highest-quality wine from 2015 harvested.

 

According to the official source, 2015 was a dry year for the majority of the vegetative cycle, delaying it for around 1-2 weeks.

 

Aged for around four years, this wine was bottled without filtration, in an accustomed manner for a single harvest wine.

 

Late Bottled Vintage 2015 is capable of maturing in bottle.

Colour: Deep ruby

Aroma: Intense and complex aromas of red and black fruit, earthy forest, and spices

Taste: Good volume, firm and powerful tannins, balanced acidity, and well-rounded red and black fruit

Port Ruby Founder’s Reserve

Rich & Mellow Ports

Rich and mellow tawny Ports are aged for longer periods in small oak casks. The relatively small volume of wine compared to the surface area of the vessel increases the contact with the wood. 

Porto Tawny Imperial Reserve

Country: Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal

Raw material: Tinta Amarela, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cão, Touriga Franca, and Touriga Nacional

Alcohol: 20%

 

Sandeman Porto Imperial Reserve is vinified using the traditional Porto Wine method, is a blend of matured wine from different ages and origins.

 

The final blend is composed of selected wines usually vary between four and twelve years of age, achieving an average age of about seven years, for consistency of style and quality typical of Sandeman’s Porto Imperial Reserve.

Aroma: Dried fruits and vanilla aromas, fresh, very elegant and complex

Taste: Rich with elegant flavours, the perfect balance between the fruit of youth and the maturity of age

White Ports

White Ports are made from traditional white grapes from Douro region and are usually aged for two or three years in large oak vats.

Porto White Apitiv Reserve White

Country: Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal

Raw material: Arinto, Códega, Gouveio, Malvasia Fina, Rabigato, and Viosinho

Alcohol: 20%

 

Sandeman Apitiv Reserve is produced following the traditional Port Wine method.

The wines remain in the Douro until they are transported, the following spring, to Sandeman’s wine cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia.

 

There they are aged in the traditional Porto Wine manner in oak casks, tasted and analyzed during their evolution, for the final blend.

 

The final blend is made from selected wines, ranging from four to nine years old, with the necessary character for Sandeman Apitiv Reserve Porto.

Aroma: Good intensity, with hints of orange zest, floral notes, and dry fruits

Taste: Wooden complexity, harmony and richness, and a balanced acidity
