Sherry Cobbler

Sherry Cobbler is an American cocktail that first appears in the 1830s.

The popularity grew and was published in Jerry Thomas’ 1862 The Bartender’s Guide and in Harry Johnson’s 1888 New and Improved Bartenders Manual.

Cobblers are shaken drinks, served over crushed ice, with straw in a Goblet or Collins glass and decorated with fruits. They are usually wine drinks but may also be with spirits.

Note that during the early 1800s a straw was a piece of ryegrass with the tendency to dissolve. Straws, as we know them today, were invented in 1888 by Marvin Stone.
