Whisky Mac
The first documented appearance of ginger wine occurred with the foundation of The Finsbury Distillery Company based in London in 1740.
Whisky Mac a.k.a. Whiskey MacDonald was invented in the late 19th century. The name points to the Colonel Sir Claude Maxwell MacDonald who was a hero Queen Victorian’s soldier.
History says the drink was created during the period of the unrest boundary demarcation over proposed between China and British India. A cholera outbreak hit the area and due to the perceived medicinal properties of ginger, MacDonald combined whisky and medicinal ginger wine to create the Whisky Mac among helps protect against the disease.
