Zombie

In early Hollywood shined the glamorized cocktail torch towards the silver screen,  cocktails became sophisticated and elegant in the movies.

Due to all the tropical locations where affluent Americans spent during Prohibition, a new style of drink emerged.

Was when Ernest Raymond Beaumont Gantt a.k.a. Don the Beachcomber left his life in New Orleans and opened in 1933 the first tiki-bar in Hollywood, California.

Don Beach created the Zombie cocktail in late 1934 at The Don the Beachcomber restaurant.

There are several stories behind it. The more fun but likely untrue says a travelling businessman who asked for a drink to help with his hangover and to get him through a tough meeting. Allegedly, the guest later reported back to Donn that he “felt like the living dead – it made a Zombie out of me”. Zombie cocktail was born.

At the restaurant, he also limited their guests to a maximum of two Zombies cocktails because of their potency.
